In 2017 Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi as well as Daddy Yankee released Despacito and it topped the charts for most streamed songs during the course of six months. The song is a blend of reggaeton, pop and rock did not just bring attention to reggaeton but it also drew interest to Latin music generally. In 2015 there were two predominantly Spanish-speaking songs in Billboard's Top 100 and in 2016 there were four. However, during the heights of Despacito's fame in 2017, there were 19 mainly Spanish songs that were included in the top 100. In 2020, the number was 41. Justin Bieber re-mixed Despacito with an English version in the year 2017. In the year following, the most well-known artists began collaborating with reggaeton artists. Drake teamed with Bad Bunny for the production of MIA (2018) and Madonna collaborated on Medellin together with Maluma (2019). In the year 2020, some Reggaeton performers were expressing displeasure about the trend of their genre to the mainstream. But a newer generation like Rauw Alejandro was keen to continue the evolution. Incorporating elements of electronic dance music, as well as other styles was a common practice.
