Carey, who stands nearly 5'10 and was once an iconic American fashion model. Designers of the top calibre, including Calvin Klein and Ralph Lauren were awestruck by her. Her father, an accomplished scientist who won the Rocky Mountain Association of Geologists' 1979 Scientist of the Year prize, is a highly respected geologist. Because of his work, Carey was raised all over the world. Following her graduation from the University of Colorado in Colorado Springs, she began modeling on the side. This caught the eye of an agent from Ford Model Agency New York. The year was 1980 when she emigrated to France and briefly lived in Paris and Bordeaux, before returning in New York in order to pursue an acting career. She appeared on Vogue as well as Glamour covers. Between modeling gigs, she was a full-time student, completing a master's degree of literature from New York University. Gradually she became interested in acting and studied at the Neighborhood Playhouse in New York. In 1986 she had her first acting role which was a part of Club Paradise, with Robin Williams. In her spare time, she enjoys ski, wind surfing and rock climbing. She also enjoys white water white water rafting.
